Group Time week of July 18

Book: Honey Honey Lion By Jan Brett
Subject: Music, movement, art

In the story, the honey badger follows the honey bird who follows the bee back to the hive to find the sweet honey!

After sharing stories of when they've seen bees the children watched a video to study how bees move. They made bee finger puppets to play a freeze game to the music of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of The Bumblebee.

Where is the bee flying to? "The hive!" the children exclaim! The children used potato stamps to create the hexagon pattern of the bee hive.

  1. HI Wendy,
I wondered if the children were fascinated by the patterns from the hexagons. I was drawn to look at other patterns in the flowers today and then, longing for summer, looked up some water related patterns and found some very beautiful coral patterns in http://photography.nationalgeographic.com/ I don't know how to attach a sample image but the site should bring you and anyone else to some great images. If the children are interested in this type of exploration maybe I could so some with them tomorrow.
